Check the rubber:
It is necessary to check the tread for wear, cracks or punctures and cuts, the absence of foreign objects in it and the integrity of the cord. If your tires are visibly worn or there is even the slightest doubt about their integrity, the beginning of the season is the best time to buy new motor tires.

Check of brakes:
The next most important procedure is to check the serviceability of the braking system. Check the thickness of the friction coating on the brake pads and replace them with new ones if there is significant wear. Check and, if necessary, top up the brake fluid in the main brake cylinder. Make sure that the fluid meets the specifications and is compatible with the fluid in your motorcycle system. When handling the brake fluid, avoid getting it on painted surfaces of your motorcycle, it may damage them.

Try pushing the brake lever and if the force on it is too soft and slurred, there is most likely air in the brake system and it needs to be pumped. If you are inexperienced in this procedure, it’s best to call a professional at a motorcycle service.

Main gear:
On modern motorcycles, you can find chain, belt or gimbal gears on the rear wheel. Their maintenance differs as much as they differ structurally from each other.

PTO: The off-season is a good time to change the oil in the rear gearbox, or at least check its level. Before opening the fill plug, thoroughly clean the gearbox surface of dirt to prevent it from getting inside the gearbox.
In addition, lubricate all grease nipples on the driveline. When carrying out this work, use the oils and greases specified by the manufacturer in the instruction manual.
The above procedures are usually sufficient for the long, trouble-free operation of the driveline, which itself requires much less attention than a chain or belt drive.

Belt drive: It is quiet, smooth and reliable, but for all this it is very important to keep it clean and maintain the tension within the limits recommended by the manufacturer. Only specialized fluids, such as Harley-Davidson’s H-D Sunwash, should be used to clean the belt. An external inspection is extremely important when servicing the drive belt. Look for cracks, missing cogs and worn sides and if these are present, the belt should be replaced.
